With over fifteen years of experience in the film and television industry, Tara Johnson Medinger has produced programs for a diverse range of clients, from national news corporations to independent underground short films. Tara's true love, though, is the film production process itself; national recognition is just the icing. Tara's films have been featured on the Independent Film Channel, as well as selected for film festivals. Her most recent documentary, /Military Families Speak Out - Oregon Chapter, has been applauded for telling the story of people who have relatives or loved ones in the military, but are opposed to the continued occupation of Iraq. In the past few years, along with co-founding sourAPPLE and producing the company's first feature film, On the Eve of War, she has also overseen management of the 10 or Less Film Festival and POW Fest, the Portland Women's Film Festival. Equally at home in the corridors of FOX Broadcasting Headquarters-where she was manager of affiliate promotion for six years-as she is at peace vigils and on military bases, Tara is an approachable and unflappable presence on set. Stephani Skalak has specialized in video documentaries that specifically aim to foster understanding across a cultural divide. Whether helping students in the United States understand the ecological issues facing African families in Lesotho or the Cameroon, or enabling American high school students to talk peer to peer about the effects of homophobia in the classroom, Stephani approaches her subjects with respect and an open mind. Since 1999, Stephani has taught documentary video production to youth and adults, empowering individuals and communities to tell their own stories in their own words. Whether as a teacher, a filmmaker, or a writer, Stephani excels at distilling the essence of an idea and setting it forth in a way that sparks understanding and interest. Filmography |
